Probably an issue with the kernel drm not firing up the dvi output. To
verify, you could try turning off KMS, which should restore the system
to proper functioning.

You can add “i915.modeset=0” to the kernel boot line in GRUB - just
after “quiet splash”. To get the GRUB menu, you need to hold down shift
early during your boot process, then hit ‘e’ once the menu has come up
to edit the boot entry.

With just the VGA connector attached X works great, with just DVI I get
no output on my screen. The DVI connector outputs the entire boot
process so cabling etc works. It used to work on 9.10
