I always get a new instance. Whit only one screen open. That happened on Ubuntu 9.10. What happened instead In my case, if I open one instance of byobu on any of this (gnome-terminal, Konsole, Xterm, tty). And later I open a new instance, I get the same screens that I have open on the previous byobu. Is something similar to run byobu-select-session. But I don't do that. And never show me any dialog or menu for the selection of a new instance of byobu. MORE DETAILS: I have Ubuntu 10.4 installed on 20 PC, Compac whit processor AMD 64 whit 2GB of RAM (Sorry but on this moment I don't have more information; I don't remember; This are computers of my university) Also I have the same distro (Ubuntu 10.4) on my laptop Dell INSPIRON E1505, processor Intel Centrino (Genuine Intel T1300 @ 1.66GHz), 1GB of RAM. In fact I see the same problem on a distro Mint (The actual, whit base on Ubuntu 10.4) because a friend have installed this on her laptop. ************************************** What I do: ************************************** I open my terminal. Alt+F2, write gnome-terminal, xterm, konsole or write bash and mark run on terminal. The same happens if I use Applications > Accessories > Terminal (Sorry in my language say: Aplicaciones > Accesorios > Terminal). In this terminal I write “byo” and type “Tab” for the auto-completion. That is, if I open a new terminal (gnome-terminal, Konsole, Xterm or tty) and run the comand byobu, I get all the screens that I have ruing on the previous byobu. That is: on any of the tow byobu, I type “Ctrl+A, : and write the command quit (intro)” the two instances of byobu finish. Something particular happen when I create a new screen. If this screen is one of the originals (It was open whit byobu). The two instances clone the new screen. Example: I have a byobu whit one screen. I open a new terminal and run the program byobu. Of curse this open the same socket. In this moment, the two instances have one screen whit lable “$ * 0” If I create a new screen, the two byobu show a new screen whit the label “$ 1” If I create a new screen, when I was on the screen whit the label “$ * 0”, that new screen appear on the two instances of byobu. But if I create a new screen, while I have the focus over the screen labeled whit “$ 1” this new screen only appear on this instance of byobu. If I return to the screen whit label “$ 0” and create a new screen, it again appear on the two instances of byobu. I don't believe “the problem are on byobu”. Because I change recently the file “~.screenrc” and copy the profile of byobu. And this works grate. When I run screen, and later I run byobu. This show me a menu ask me if I desire create a new or open previous. Y probablemente también en la redacción y en los errores. La situación es la siguiente: Al correr byobu en dos instancias esta por default reproduce la anterior. De manera similar a correr byobu-select-session. Este detalle me aparece en cada una de las instalaciones que he realizado de Ubuntu 10.4. (No me pasaba en la anterior Ubuntu 9.10). Lo he instalado en 21 máquinas 20 son Compac (Con Hardware similar); en este momento no tengo las características de las Compac solo recuerdo que tienen procesador AMD 64 y 2GB de RAM. Y me pasa también en la mía una Dell INSPIRON E1505, procesador Intel Centrino (Genuine Intel T1300 @ 1.66GHz), 1GB en RAM. De hecho me percate del detalle al día siguiente del que fue liberado Ubuntu 10.4, pues lo tenia que instalar en estas 20 máquinas. Pero quise esperar para mandar el reporte en lo que encontraba algún detalle, no sé, algo cómo: "byobu arrancara sesiones ya abiertas por default a menos que pase el argumento '-X'" Pero no he encontrado nada similar, ni en bugs, ni en foros. Este detalle también lo vi en un Mint, la versión actual basada en Ubuntu 10.4. Pues la instalo un conocido y le pedí permiso de ver si pasaba lo mismo en su distro (Tampoco tengo las características de esta laptop en este momento). Lo que pasa es lo siguiente: Abro la terminal gnome (Aplicaciones>Accesorios>Terminal, Alt+F2 ejecutar gnome-termminal) corro byobu. Genero algunas screens en esta terminal. Por ejemplo una para bash, dselect, man, finch. Y al pasarme a otra instancia de gnome-terminal (Alt+F2 ejecutar bash, correr en terminal) y abrir byobu, sin más me abre exactamente las mismas ventanas. Suponga que en gnome-terminal instancia uno (GT1) tengo finch en el screen 1 (0 $), y en el screen 2 tengo man man (1 $), luego tengo un tercer screen para bash (2 $). Abro otra terminal (gnome-terminal) y corro byobu. Da la casualidad que no me presenta un menú de abrir sesión anterior o algo similar, y me vuelve a abrir exactamente lo mismo que tengo en GT1. En otras palabras en esta otra instancia de gnome-terminal con otro byobu me abre: finch en el screen 1 (0 $),en el screen 2 man man (1 $), y en el tercer screen para bash (2 $). Por supuesto si escribo algo en GT2 en el bayobu de esta, también se refleja en GT1. Por ejemplo si escribo ls en el screen 2 (El bash) en GT2, aparece también en GT1. Un detalle particular en este punto, es que al crear otro screen (Ctrl+A, C [^A C] ) se crea este screen en ambas instancias de byobu (GT1 y GT2). Pero si creo otro screen, este ya no se crea en el otro. Esto es, si creo un screen en GT1 aparece en el acto en GT2. Y si creo otro screen en GT1 ya no aparece en GT2. Esto pasa también si se crea el nuevo screen en GT2. En otras palabras si GT1 tiene 'n' screens abiertos y se crea otra instancia de byobu en otra gnome-terminal esta imitara 'n+1' screens. Todo parece indicar que si se crea un nuevo screen con los que se enlazan al inicio, este nuevo screen será creado en las dos instancias. Por ejemplo: Se tiene una gnome-terminal, se abre byobu, se crea un screen. Se abre otra gnome-terminal se abre otro byobu; este por default clonara el screen del byobu encontrado en GT1, y se crea otro screen (^A c), este será creado en los dos. Si estoy en el screen 1 y doy crear un nuevo screen este no se reproduce en los dos. Pero si estoy en el screen 0 (Con el que estaban enlazados originalmente ambos byobu), y creo 'n' screens estos se clonaran en ambas instancias. Si cierro las aplicaciones se cierra en las dos instancias de byobu. Si estas se han enlazado. Suponga que pulso q en el finch ubicado en el GT1, en el acto se sierra en GT2. Y si mato el screen (^A k, yes). Se cierra en ambos. De manera similar, si cierro este segundo byobu (^A :, comando quit) se cierran los dos byobus. En los últimos días, he cambiado la configuración de scrren. Copie el script de byobu en ~.screenrc. Y jala de maravilla, de hecho si corro byobu después de screen, este me presenta un menú preguntándome si deseo crear uno nuevo o abrir alguna de las sesiones ya abiertas. De manera que mi conclusión es que byobu no esta fallando.
