Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brother-lpr-drivers-laser1

It is saying it is conflicting with this package: mfc8840dlpr

I am trying to remove it:

s...@pecan:~$ sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/info/mfc8840dlpr.postrm
/var/lib/dpkg/info/mfc8840dlpr.postrm.old
s...@pecan:~$ /var/lib/dpkg/info/mfc8840dlpr.postrm.old^C

I looked here for help:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1073486

It didn't work.

This worked:

s...@pecan:~$ sudo dpkg --purge --force-remove-reinstreq mfc8840dlpr
dpkg: warning: overriding problem because --force enabled:

Then, my printer driver installed (brother-cups-wrapper-laser1). This
was very weird. It may have had something to do with trying to follow
these directions: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=278923 I
deemed those too old and abandoned them, but maybe I did something to
install that mfc8840dlpr while I was messing around with it. I'll give
this driver from the repository a shot and see where that gets me.
