Is there any way we can escalate this bug? It seems like it will be a fairly big deal when edgy gets released, and people won't be able to play media off of their servers. This is a pretty nasty regression, IMHO. I'd like to help out to track down this bug, but I'm no C coder, so I don't know

I can also confirm this problem. No gstreamer apps are able to read from my file-server's (Ubuntu Dapper) samba share. (Mounted through Gnome VFS) I can read from the same share just fine on my Dapper install. -- edgy: totem can no longer stream from samba share https://launchpad.net/bugs/61147

** Description changed: upgraded client and server to edgy. Before: client could use totem to stream avi files from servers samba share. Now: client gives error totem could not play: smb://.../avi could not read from resource . However manually copying the file thru nautilus
