I can confirm this with a netgear card. I did have some problems when upgrading : (1) linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17-10-generic couldn't load the module because of unresolved symbol issues ; (2) linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17-10-386 can load the module but cannot set mode to non-managed. So
