This could be caused by a corrupt configuration file. Please move your
$HOME/.gconf to a separate location and see if you can reproduce the
problem.

Well it has probably always been like this. Edgy for me.
If you set the 'idle' color to something other than black, logout and login, or
make it restart, it starts in black, no?

Is this in Dapper or Edgy? I am unable to reproduce this in Edgy for
multiload-applet-2.
