in Toshiba
I think I have the same config.
Try installing the last version of alsa from the daily ppa.
It worked perfectly for me. (Althought I just tested the laptop speaker
and the headphone jack).

I'm not sure whether to file a new bug or not. My problem is basically
the same, only on an ASUS K52JK notebook. My headphones are not being
detected at all.
