+1 for me. I also cannot lock packages in Synaptic. I have a fresh install of Edgy. I tried various scenarious - package installed/not installed, official repo., universe etc. same result. I to can confirm this bug. Eh, today I fought quite a long time with synaptic to get it to unlock some packages : no way. Synaptic did as it does when it does something, but when I got hand again, nothing had changed. I finally unlocked them by removing the /var/lib/synaptic/preferences file (which had been created when the box was still dapper). I then changed my mind and decided to re-lock one of them. Same problem. I would say the menu is connected to make the user wait while we rebuild the package categories which we didn't change. As far as I can tell, this happens for any package. Perhaps I should also clarify: when I wrote the status of the selected package is not changed in my original report above, what I mean is that the gui of Synaptic indicates that the status of the package is not changed (i.e. not locked or pinned).
