Yep, that solved the issue too in my case. Right now I'm working on a
howto to set a powerbook g4 up and running flawlessly with edgy. As
soon as I have scim working well, video out and bluetooth tested I'll
put it on the web.

I just installed a PowerBook G4 15inch and had a similar issue. I had to
insert the snd-powermac module by hand (i.e., with 'modeprobe snd-
powermac') which resolved the problem on my end.

Output of /proc/cpuinfo tells us what 17 inch Powerbook it is. Saying
it's a 17 inch PowerBook doesn't narrow it down. There's too many.

Can you post the printout of:
cat /proc/cpuinfo
This will give us information on your specific model of PowerBook

He gave plenty. Only thing is, you need output of dmesg, and some values
out of prom.
I can't understand why it isn't work for this person. I own a 17
PowerBook PPC, and sounds works great.
