[Bug 647404] Re: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it

2011-11-27 Thread unmacaque
I have got a similar problem as #118.

I install Arch Linux as a VirtualBox guest system. Once up and running,
I install systemd to replace the default initscripts startup system.
After restarting, I am thrown into 'emergency mode' and am greeted by
random modprobe messages (see the attached screenshot). Going from
there, I can login as root but all mounts save for the system partition
seem to have failed. If I press Ctrl+D twice or try systemctl default
as suggested, I get multiple worker [XXX] did not accept message -1
lines.

If I switch back to the initscripts system, the system boots fine. Most
curiously, the host system is also running Arch Linux with systemd and
it never failed during boot.

finish scrolling by I am dumped at a TTY login prompt. Can log in, but no GUI,
am stuck in terminal. This machine has 1 GB of ram and a 7 GB hard drive. It
has both Ubuntu and Lubuntu on it. Tried the commands above:
sudo -s

[Bug 647404] Re: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it

2011-08-04 Thread Peter Hansen
I see various comments that this may affect only Netbooks. Not the
case. I just set up a new headless server, quad core Xeon X3430, with a
500GB SATA drive, and am getting the same errors at startup with an
Ubuntu 11.04 install. I don't know whether this occurred with the fresh
install... I think not... but I did just notice it immediately after
going through a root filesystem resize (shrinking it from the full drive
to 100GB) using the Rescue CD (actually a USB flash drive).

If there's any connection to solid state drives here, it's that I
installed this from a USB key and did the resizing just now from a USB
key in Rescue mode. Hope that helps...

Re: [Bug 647404] Re: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it

2011-05-14 Thread Lawrence H. Bulk
A few weeks before the release of 11.04, there was evidently an update which
caused at least part of the problem to cease. I still saw the 10.04
background on the login screen (which switched immediately to the 10.10
background once I had logged in), but the udev message no longer appeared.

I won't go into my reasons for doing this but, rather than try a network
upgrade on this particular computer (Asus Eee PC 1000/Linux, formerly with
Asus' proprietary distro but replaced with Ubuntu last year), I decided to
'wipe' (with DBAN) and completely reinstall Ubuntu (with 11.04).

I have very few programs on this computer; my wife and I use it when
traveling to get e-mail, listen to internet radio stations, and so forth.

It has two hard drives, both SSDs - 8 GB (primary) and 32 GB (secondary).
(Why Asus made it this way I cannot understand; until you really get to
understand how to coordinate the two drives, it can be a real pain.)

The 'wiping' process took a couple of hours; reinstallation of Ubuntu took
only a half-hour and the configuration to our tastes took another hour.

Now everything works perfectly. I recommend that anyone who is annoyed by
this udev message (or who is having some other problems) consider wiping and
reinstalling.

It has certainly worked for me.

Problem still there after update to 11.04 from 10.10. Now error message
begins udevd [67]: but the rest is the same. Usually fills a screen
and a half of incremental workers being killed. Then something about a
cache page not found. Once the machine gets going everything else seems
OK.

It started happening after I updated to 11.04, however I also at the
same time replaced my old HDD with and SSD. Could it be a Solid state

2011-03-05 Thread Lawrence H. Bulk
It's disappointing that this 'bug' hasn't been corrected in 'Natty' (at
least as yet). I certainly hope that someone can introduce a fix for the
anomaly. Does anyone know WHY it occurs?

It appears to be more of an annoyance than a real problem. At least so
far I have not seen it affecting anything I try to do on my Asus Eee PC
1000/Linux (running 10.10, network update from 10.04 clean install).

I have noticed that when I begin the boot, the background shown is that
of 10.04; once I enter the login information, the background immediately
changes to that of 10.10. Has anyone else noticed this? And does it
occur with computers which have had a clean install of 10.10?

Again I hope that someone can come up with a fix.

[Bug 647404] Re: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it

2010-11-25 Thread Keith Allcock
Playing with trying to get udev to log something with the following
result:

Changing /etc/udev/udev.conf to log debug info and changing /etc/default/grub
to not have quiet on the default boot options, shows the errors come before
this line:
usb 1-8: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

... but there is too much info on screen and nothing is in any log files
(specifically the worker lines we all see)

Without the logging option, I can then tell that the errors should be between
these two entries;
kernel: [1.394993] EXT4-fs (sda1): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode
kernel: [1.528061] usb 1-8: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

and when udev is in debug you can see these parts are run
/scripts/local-bottom

Unfortunately when the grub option has the quiet removed you don't get
the error lines showing so I can't see any more details.

Does anyone know how to switch on some logging to show what happens
between the two logged lines?

 information from attachments.
During boot, I get error message:

XXX is number around 240, see the picture.
I didn't find any information about that in logs, so I took a picture. I
tried to google for similar bugs too but I didn't find any – I'm sorry if
 there are.

Hyper-threading is one of the best things in Intel Atom and it makes your
system faster. So you shouldn't disable it. :)

But anyway this is good information; the problem is someway related to
hyper-threading.

The same problem for me, on an Asus eeepc 901, with a fresh install of
Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook edition.

I've checked kernel boot messages using dmesg, and I've seen a
suggestion to update my BIOS.

I have done the BIOS update, and after that the error messages were
gone, but only during the firsts two boots. Now, the udev[80] worker
.. error messages are present on every boot again.

Yes, as you can see, many netbook owners have this problem. I guess this
is nothing serious, just very annoying and it makes the boot experience
very bad. I wonder why no one developer has commented this.

2010-10-24 Thread Vytautas
Well, since 9.10 my boot experience was getting poorer and poorer :) Yes, it
boots faster but at the same time, more and more errors keep popping up, or
new boot themes don't work, etc. I tried arch linux not so long ago (few
weeks maybe) and while it uses udev, I haven't experienced anything like
this so I assume this is maverick's fault. I'm not going to discuss whether
this worker error is serious or not, but it doesn't do anything good to
attract more people to use Ubuntu :) Back to 10.04 and I'm disappointed even
more now, as instead of one error, I actually get two now.

I've got rid of the problem by adding acpi=off to /etc/defaults/grub.
i.e.

The downside is that I'm left with only a command prompt and no Unity netbook
shell.
There's probably a better solution somewhere.

2010-10-21 Thread ingolf.schaefer
I have no additional insight in fixing this bug, but at least it is
possible to just hide it.

I repeat: The following does not fix anything, just hides the error
message.

In Terminal enter:

sudo -s
echo FRAMEBUFFER=y /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash
update-initramfs -u

This loads the framebuffer at start which hides the errors. Taken from:

2010-10-18 Thread Andrew Wright
Another Acer Aspire One here, the ZG5. Happens every boot. Not using the
original SSD any more, replaced with a CompactFlash through an IDE
interface. Fresh install of 10.10 final Netbook Edition on an ext2
partition. Can provide any logs on request.

I am also experiencing this, also on an Acer Aspire One AOA 110 with a

It seems like this issue is mostly affecting SSD based systems.
