[Bug 647404] Re: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it
I have got a similar problem as #118. I install Arch Linux as a VirtualBox guest system. Once up and running, I install systemd to replace the default initscripts startup system. After restarting, I am thrown into 'emergency mode' and am greeted by random modprobe messages (see the attached screenshot). Going from there, I can login as root but all mounts save for the system partition seem to have failed. If I press Ctrl+D twice or try systemctl default as suggested, I get multiple worker [XXX] did not accept message -1 lines. If I switch back to the initscripts system, the system boots fine. Most curiously, the host system is also running Arch Linux with systemd and it never failed during boot. ** Attachment added: archlinux-systemd-udev.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/647404/+attachment/2610682/+files/archlinux-systemd-udev.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/647404 Title: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/udev/+bug/647404/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 647404] Re: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it
I see various comments that this may affect only Netbooks. Not the case. I just set up a new headless server, quad core Xeon X3430, with a 500GB SATA drive, and am getting the same errors at startup with an Ubuntu 11.04 install. I don't know whether this occurred with the fresh install... I think not... but I did just notice it immediately after going through a root filesystem resize (shrinking it from the full drive to 100GB) using the Rescue CD (actually a USB flash drive). If there's any connection to solid state drives here, it's that I installed this from a USB key and did the resizing just now from a USB key in Rescue mode. Hope that helps... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/647404 Title: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/udev/+bug/647404/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 647404] Re: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it
A few weeks before the release of 11.04, there was evidently an update which caused at least part of the problem to cease. I still saw the 10.04 background on the login screen (which switched immediately to the 10.10 background once I had logged in), but the udev message no longer appeared. I won't go into my reasons for doing this but, rather than try a network upgrade on this particular computer (Asus Eee PC 1000/Linux, formerly with Asus' proprietary distro but replaced with Ubuntu last year), I decided to 'wipe' (with DBAN) and completely reinstall Ubuntu (with 11.04). I have very few programs on this computer; my wife and I use it when traveling to get e-mail, listen to internet radio stations, and so forth. It has two hard drives, both SSDs - 8 GB (primary) and 32 GB (secondary). (Why Asus made it this way I cannot understand; until you really get to understand how to coordinate the two drives, it can be a real pain.) The 'wiping' process took a couple of hours; reinstallation of Ubuntu took only a half-hour and the configuration to our tastes took another hour. Now everything works perfectly. I recommend that anyone who is annoyed by this udev message (or who is having some other problems) consider wiping and reinstalling. It has certainly worked for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/647404 Title: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 647404] Re: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it
It's disappointing that this 'bug' hasn't been corrected in 'Natty' (at least as yet). I certainly hope that someone can introduce a fix for the anomaly. Does anyone know WHY it occurs? It appears to be more of an annoyance than a real problem. At least so far I have not seen it affecting anything I try to do on my Asus Eee PC 1000/Linux (running 10.10, network update from 10.04 clean install). I have noticed that when I begin the boot, the background shown is that of 10.04; once I enter the login information, the background immediately changes to that of 10.10. Has anyone else noticed this? And does it occur with computers which have had a clean install of 10.10? [Bug 647404] Re: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it
Playing with trying to get udev to log something with the following result: Changing /etc/udev/udev.conf to log debug info and changing /etc/default/grub to not have quiet on the default boot options, shows the errors come before this line: usb 1-8: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice ... but there is too much info on screen and nothing is in any log files (specifically the worker lines we all see) Without the logging option, I can then tell that the errors should be between these two entries; kernel: [1.394993] EXT4-fs (sda1): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode kernel: [1.528061] usb 1-8: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice and when udev is in debug you can see these parts are run /scripts/local-bottom Unfortunately when the grub option has the quiet removed you don't get the error lines showing so I can't see any more details. Does anyone know how to switch on some logging to show what happens between the two logged lines? -- Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/647404 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 647404] Re: Udev worker error during boot worker [XX] did not accept message -1 (Connection refused), kill it
Well, since 9.10 my boot experience was getting poorer and poorer :) Yes, it boots faster but at the same time, more and more errors keep popping up, or new boot themes don't work, etc. I tried arch linux not so long ago (few weeks maybe) and while it uses udev, I haven't experienced anything like this so I assume this is maverick's fault. I'm not going to discuss whether this worker error is serious or not, but it doesn't do anything good to attract more people to use Ubuntu :) Back to 10.04 and I'm disappointed even more now, as instead of one error, I actually get two now. On Sun, Oct 24, 2010 at 6:07 PM, Elias Julkunen elias.julku...@gmail.comwrote: Yes, as you can see, many netbook owners have this problem. I guess this is nothing serious, just very annoying and it makes the boot experience very bad. I've got rid of the problem by adding acpi=off to /etc/defaults/grub. i.e. GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash acpi=off The downside is that I'm left with only a command prompt and no Unity netbook shell. I have no additional insight in fixing this bug, but at least it is possible to just hide it. I repeat: The following does not fix anything, just hides the error message. In Terminal enter: sudo -s echo FRAMEBUFFER=y /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash update-initramfs -u This loads the framebuffer at start which hides the errors.
