The avcodec is in the vlc package. libavcodec depends on Xlib anyway.
There is no opinion to be had.

No, I got a server without X window system and 'vlc' package requeres
too many dependencies. vlc-nox is designed especially for no X systems.
I cant see why avcodec plugin is available only in X version of vlc. If
so It could be packaging mistake.
