Mustek 1200ub plus relies on a firmware that is currently not included. firmware is called sbfw.usb and it goes in /usr/share/sane/gt68xx You can get it from http://www.meier-geinitz.de/sane/gt68xx-backend/ Also sane misidentifies the 1200ub plus calls it a bearclaw 1200cu need to edit file

That scanner requires proprietary firmware in order to work, which is why it doesn't work out of the box. On the positive side, once you do set it up, it is 100% functional. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=24087 for details. Apart from that, did xsane actually crash or did it just
