OK, I got it going with a work-around. I went with the mod-64 idea on the resolution, along with the remark about setting the maximum for my card, which I believe is a vertical resolution of 1080. So I used a setting for Virtual of 3008 1080. Now I no longer get the width too large message, and

I'm seeing similar behavior on a desktop with a Radeon HD 4870. However, the 'multiples of 64' bit seems to be a red herring. I have a pair of 1920x1080 displays, and when I set Virtual 3840 1080, the maximum detected resolutions are 1440x900 and 1400x1050. If I set Virtual 3840 1088 (multiple of
