I added the model=lg line to alsa-base.conf some time ago (I think when I installed ubuntu 6.10 on 2006, but I'm not sure). If I don't use it the built-in speakers and the mics (both the built-in and external) dont work. Anyway, I've tried removing that option and rebooting, and the problem

Ok, so there are two bugs being reported here: 1) Your machine needs a model quirk applied. Please file a separate bug so we can get that fix pushed upstream. Just to clarify, do all playback and capture work properly (aside from crackling, etc.) with that quirk? I.e., inserting headphones
