Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gsynaptics

Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
gsynaptics 0.9.16-3
Xorg.0.log reports AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint, using synaptics driver, although
psmouse is the kernel module.

Launching gsynaptics reports settings for my touchpad that differ from
those in gnome-mouse-properties. The gsynaptics ones are incorrect (e.g.
horizontal scrolling does not work, gsynaptics reports it is enabled).
Changing the settings in gsynaptics has no effect.

gsynaptics should not "pretend" to be functional if it is not. If it
cannot read/write the settings correctly (I've heard this could be to do
with SHMConfig option to the X server) then it should report this.
Further, since the touchpad is clearly working and settings are
accessible somehow to gnome-mouse-properties, gsynaptics should
read/write them correctly under this configuration.

** Affects: gsynaptics (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
