Ok, after some studying found out that the front and rear outputs work independently and the front has 2 different ways of usage hda and ac97. My case is a bit older than the motherboard and doesn't support hda on the front panel. There is a bios setting for the type of front panel (hda/ac97).

Installed a minimal (no X, no nothing) Debian Squeeze with enough sw to play audio. alsa-base, mpg321 and tested the sound problem. Sound works with linux-image-2.6.30-2-amd64, but not with linux- image-2.6.32-5-amd64. Maybe the Debian 2.6.32 has extra patches that cause the problem because the
