I did not have the problem when running 10.04/Lucid. You could try SystemRescueCD and see whether disks are recognised then. I have connected 4 disks to 5723. Orange ports (port 0 orange/port1 white) I have in BIOS (Drive Xpert) defined as Speed I think. In your case the disks would show as ONE
