[Bug 66659] Re: mythtv-setup crashes when scanning ATSC channels

2007-06-06 Thread David Morris
ok I miss read the top to mean it was on 0.19

However due to the packages not been built with the debug symbols and
using -O3 the backtraces are unsuitable. Discussions are taking place
with the upstream devs on how we can build the packages so they aren't
overly slow yet are still have the debug symbols

[Bug 66659] Re: mythtv-setup crashes when scanning ATSC channels

2007-06-05 Thread David Morris
After speaking to the mythtv devs they will only entertain bugs in the
current release (0.20) if you can reproduce this with 0.20 the please
feel free to reopen the bug. The current users have also said they've
worked around it.

On top of this without backtraces they won't look at it.

[Bug 66659] Re: mythtv-setup crashes when scanning ATSC channels

2007-06-05 Thread ironstorm
Pardon me, but WTF?

I opened this bug 8 months ago against MythTV 0.20 (i.e. the current
release of MythTV), a backtrace was fucking provided in bug's initial
description (hint search for === Backtrace: =) and again
with Tom's follow up post on Feisty (i.e. the current release of Ubuntu)
on March 15th another backtrace is provided and the bug is indicated to
still occur and it does. I could provide you with one from today but
what good that would do.

If you are not going to address the problem, fine, but don't make it
sound like you didn't get the info you asked for...

[Bug 66659] Re: mythtv-setup crashes when scanning ATSC channels

2007-06-04 Thread David Morris
Thanks for the info.

Hyper threading works by tricking the OS to see dual cpu's so it can get
slightly better throughput from it, hence why it displayed the same
problems as people with dual core machines.

[Bug 66659] Re: mythtv-setup crashes when scanning ATSC channels

2007-06-04 Thread Bob Chilcott
I've been getting this consistently when trying to set up MythTV with a
Hauppauge Nova-T 500 DVB-T card in a new Feisty installation. Every time
I did Scan Channels in the Input Connections screen it would get to 7%
and then crash with an invalid pointer as described in this bug. After
much searching I found a message on a forum from someone who had a
similar problem and said he fixed it by disabling one of the CPUs on his
dual core Pentium. My CPU is not dual core - it's a Pentium 640 - but
when I grep for CPU in /var/log/messages I see messages for CPU1 CPU2.
Not being particularly techie, I don't know what that means but I
thought I'd try disabling HyperThreading in the BIOS to see if it made a
difference. Bingo! Scan channels now works perfectly. I've done it
several times and it's worked every time.

Don't know if this info is useful but I thought I'd post it just in
case.

Re: [Bug 66659] Re: mythtv-setup crashes when scanning ATSC channels

2007-04-07 Thread Tom Inglis
Yes, it happens in the latest version on the most up to date Feisty.

However, I have noticed that it seems to be random, as if you keep rescanning
it crashes in different places. I have managed to get to 100% once, and hit
finish, which caused a segmentation fault, but seems to have stored the
channels, so I am using it for now. MythTV does continue to be buggy though,
and the channel scanning still crashes every other time I try it.

I hope you can sort this!

Bestest,

T.
