[Bug 685325] Re: Gnome menus window titles missing
I have a similar bug with Ubuntu 12.04 though the depth part is working. The title bar of each application is not displayed and I can't move some of the application windows. (I can move Firefox window, but not Nautilus or OpenOffice windows. This happend after the last update. The updater request me to reboot. After the reboot it could download somthing. I tried again without success clicking on retry. Now I rebooted and it doesn't ask me again but this time I got everything screw-up like described above. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/685325 Title: Gnome menus window titles missing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/685325/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 685325] Re: Gnome menus window titles missing
Don't know where to run with this. Tried all the different computers I have in my house. A Dell Inspiron Laptop gave exactly the same result as the above. An older PC I have ( I can get the hardware spec if it will help) boots up just fine, and presents me with the Gnome desktop. If I try to run Unity (neither Unity nor Compiz are running) ... if I try to run Unity from the terminal, it gives a fatal error when trying to start Compiz. It gets worse. I have access to my wife's PC. Fairly modern - around two years old. Again I can get the hardware details if required. It is currently running 10.04 perfectly well. It will not boot into the liveCD - it fails during boot with the error (intramfs) stin: I/O error mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed: no such device I tried 11.10 and this gives the same error while booting the liveCD. I'm a bit worried - four computers in one household, and none of them can boot Natty properly! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/685325 Title: Gnome menus window titles missing -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 685325] Re: Gnome menus window titles missing
I originally reported this bug on #693073. My technical details are posted under that bug. I find the problem got a lot worse with yesterday's Alpha 2 image. Compiz crashes randomly. Clicking on the top right Ubuntu icon gives me a black nautilus window with no contents menus or anything else active. This crashes Compiz if I try to do anything with it. Nautilus opened from the 'file manager' icon on the sidebar works properly I tried to run ubuntu-bug compiz from the terminal, but lost it. Will try again! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/685325 Title: Gnome menus window titles missing -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 685325] Re: Gnome menus window titles missing
The tty1 method posted by Omer has given me the window controls and fixed the window depth issue, however the panels aren't displaying. I receive the following error: ubu...@ubuntu:/etc$ metacity --replace Window manager warning: Type mismatch: Expected `int' got `bool' for key /apps/metacity/general/num_workspaces Window manager warning: 0 stored in GConf key /apps/metacity/general/num_workspaces is out of range 1 to 36 Using gconf-editor editor the value is a bool, I wasn't able to locate the config file where this is set (all the files I was able to find had it set to int). Further to my initial bug report (I noticed it upon booting up again), I should have mentioned that when the window comes up asking if I want to try ubuntu (which I selected) or install ubuntu the panels and window borders are showing correctly, the display manager appears to shut down following this and starts up again with window borders and panels missing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/685325 Title: Gnome menus window titles missing -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

thats a bug in compiz as i faced it too on a system (without unity enabled) there are two things you can do at the moment. find metacity in the applications folder and open it (it will bring your panels too, they are running but not visible). or open tty1, login and do the following. $ export DISPLAY=:0 $ metacity --replace ** Package changed: unity (Ubuntu) = compiz (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/685325 Title: Gnome menus window titles missing -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
