[Bug 693745] Re: wront time report for turkey

2011-01-03 Thread C de-Avillez
@Oguz Altun: if you are behind a firewall, and it blocks port 123, then
I would expect your infrastructure to provide its own NTP stratum.
Please check with them. Port 123 (UDP/TCP) is the well-known port for
NTP synchronisation;

@Jussi Jaurola: please do not assign yourself (or anybody else) to a bug
unless you are actively working on a patch/fix.

[Bug 693745] Re: wront time report for turkey

2011-01-02 Thread Oguz Altun
I could not set the time with ntpdate command:

r...@moodle:~# ntpq -p de.pool.ntp.org
node3.mneisen.org: timed out, nothing received
***Request timed out

r...@moodle:~# ntpdate node3.mneisen.org
2 Jan 16:32:47 ntpdate[4572]: no server suitable for synchronization found

I can ping the server without a problem. I tried that with different
servers, too.

So I set the time with the date command manually. The system has right
time now, (even after a restart), but I do not think the time is being
synchronised with ntp servers at all.

[Bug 693745] Re: wront time report for turkey

2011-01-02 Thread Jussi Jaurola
Try with another server. LIke you can see, the server you did try is not
up. Try with ntp.ubuntu.com, it's sure working:

j...@bumba:~$ sudo ntpdate ntp.ubuntu.com
 2 Jan 17:57:23 ntpdate[4605]: adjust time server 91.189.94.4 offset -0.030875
sec

Like I told earlier, I cannot re-produce your bug. If your server is not
able to sync time, check your firewall settings etc, it might be that
firewall doesn't pass ntp traffic.

j...@bumba:~$ sudo ntptime

Can you try that ntpdate with ntp.ubuntu.com and after that with
ntptime. I cannot re-do your case, with x64 Hardy and using
configuration you gave.

I did an ntpdate with ntp.ubuntu.com and failed, but as I said before, I
am behind a firewall and the ntp port 123 is probably closed. I wish I
could use port 80 with ntp. But the servers are not set up like that
anyway, I guess.

2011-01-01 Thread Jussi Jaurola
Please attach your /etc/ntp.conf -file here.

NTP is not able to change clock if time is too far away, in this case
you must change clock by hand or use ntpdate-command to set up time in
first place to near correct and then enable ntp to keep time in place.

I tried this on plain Hardy (x64) but was not able to reproduce your
bug.

Could you try to set up time with ntpdate and then try again with
ntptime?
