This isn't an issue in Kubuntu Intrepid (8.10) since KDesktop is no more. I ran dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg (see bug #89289 ) and rebooted. I am also getting Kdesktop crash at shutdown, Sigsegv 11. This occurs either using the Shutdown of KDE or pressing the power button of the PC briefly. Edgy on AMD64 3700, KDE3.5.5.
