Fresh install of ubuntu 11.4
running google chrome
-5-6 browsers open
added items to unity side bar
switched between desk tops (desktop 1, 2, 3, 4 [testing functionability, 
nothing activated or launched)]
switched back  to desktop 1
unity side bar and panels disappeared, could not open or close anything, power 
button refused to shutdown.
forced shutdown via pc's power button.
