I don't know if this is related (i.e,. underlying libraries used), but I have the same problem when copying from Epiphany to gnome-terminal. (I started to comment on this originally thinking this was talking about epiphany, not empathy :-/ ) . Thanks for the tip/work-around: using shift+insert also works to paste into terminal for me. But the menu (edit-paste) and shift+control+v do not work when copying from certain applications. Previously, as a work-around, I'd copy from epiphany (or empathy) into gvim, select/copy, and then I could paste into gnome-terminal just fine. I run Ubuntu 10.10 and Empathy 2.32.1 and I can confirm that copy/paste from Empathy is broken in some circumstances. Whenever I try to copy paste a conversation to Gmail (using Firefox 3.6.17) I'm unable to paste. I have to paste first in gedit and then re- copy/paste to FF. On the other hand I tested with Google Chrome and it works fine. In GNOME Terminal (2.32.0) paste does not work if I use the context menu - paste.
