Hello, I have the same problem, still in ubuntu 12.04; this issue and other issues related to other software happen when the locale values are set and the interface is switched partially instead fully to be RTL depending on the language; im not sure what library(ies) try to do this; but i have a similar issue but less grave in lmms too. Bug still present in Ubuntu 12.04 Launching with LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8 audacity does not solve it for me. Changing the language to English does not solve it. Installing Audacity onto a system with the system-wide default language set to Hebrew, the problem occurs. If I install with the system-wide default language set to English, Audacity works, but on changing the system-wide default language to Hebrew the problem appears. As Yaakov Shoham wrote, the problem occurs whenever Ubuntu tries to make Audacity Right-to-Left. I have the same bug. The bug doesn't depend on Audacity language at all. I've 11.04 Hebrew installation. If I connect to the Gnome-Session (the Ubuntu login screen) normally (means: in the bottom of the screen the selected language is Hebrew) - I can't see anything in Audacity; no matter which language I choose for Audacity. If I choose English in the login screen, Audacity works fine with any language. My default language is German, but setting LANG should give the same result. I tried [1], but the text was shown correctly. There must be a different between your system and my system even if I set LANG to he_IL.UTF-8. We need to know this difference to debug your problem. Can you install Ubuntu select English as your language. Then launch audacity from the terminal with LANG=he_IL.UTF-8 audacity.
