2010-08-22 Thread Evan Broder
It's standard for files in /etc/init.d to get marked as conffiles. The normal way to handle this is for the init script to do an early check if the package is installed, and exit out if it is not. For instance, line 16 or so of my /etc/init.d/ssh has test -x /usr/sbin/sshd || exit 0 --

The right way to fix it, would be to test if the binary for the package exists before doing anything in the init script. Please see /etc/init.d/ssh. The symlink getting removed only with purge option is right though. -- apt-get remove vmware-player doesn't remove vmware-player service

2007-03-16 Thread VMware Build Team
I think the problem is /etc/init.d/vmware-player is just getting marked as a config file and it shouldn't. Looking at other packages, it appears /etc/rc2*.d symlinks don't themselves get removed until purge. ** Changed in: vmware-player (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed --
