Have you made a partial upgrade to get this state? The packaging doesn't
allow that case to happen normally.
Can you please:
apt-cache policy compiz-core
apt-cache policy libcompizconfig0
and the, apt-cache show on them as well please.

yes I must have done a partial upgrade, anyway today's updates resolved
everything as I expected I'll mark it as fix released.
