haven't however downgraded yet, im currently updating

Seems like an issue related to the 2.6.20 kernel release candidates.
Carlos, does this still occur? Infinity, are you updated to Herd 3 and
can you try to boot the latest kernel? Please let me know.

I got plenty of problems on feisty.. it became totally unusable, I 
re-installed Dapper and upgraded to Edgy.
Sorry for not being able to help.

I have a similar bug on Ubuntu:
0Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt
and then, sometimes:
atkdb.c:Spurious ACK on isa0060/serio0. Some program might be trying access 
hardware directly
(repeatidily)

This happen only when I entered init level 3, a few seconds after gdm
launches(I tried with kdm... the same). In recovery mode, this doesn't
happen.
