Installing that PPA will get you Flashplayer version 10.3.162.28, which
has a release date of November 30th, 2010. There has been at least one
critical vulnerability patched since that date.
As Derik points out, Flash works fine in Google Chrome.

Still the same problem with all my Ubuntu 11.04 (x64) installation..

As Sergio (#6) said: Installing from
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10_square.html and copying to
/usr/lib/firefox/plugins/ and
/usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins/ (firefox-4.0/plugins/ didn't work for me)
has fixed it.

This bug persists with Adobe Flash 10.2.159.1 into the Ubuntu Natty
11.04 release.
Flash video in Firefox is chunky, but it works perfectly in Google
Chrome.

I wouldn't recommend the 64-bit version. There have been 5 critical
vulnerabilities in Flash announced since that was released.

Glad it works for you, but I've had very, very poor performance with the
64-bit version of Flash on all previous versions of Linux, so I'll deal
with the blocky-ness for now. Is this version even maintained?

This happens on many, many flash videos. The only exceptions I am aware
of are youtube and bbc vids.
