It appears to me that gnome-terminal is trying to maintain the size of the window, no matter the number of lines within the terminal or how many lines the menu bar removes from the terminal. Might be related to handling of the menu (which would occupy one row). Please note that it appears to be buggy in some regards, so it might even consume one row although it's not being displayed. JFI: you can check this using: % echo $COLUMNS x $LINES 80 x 22 Enabling/disabling the menu bar changes the $LINES. When I pin the terminal application to the launcher, and launch it, it doesn't get an arrow indicating the application is active. When I click the launcher again, it opens a new terminal window instead of showing the current active one, or triggering expose. The only way to get back to the other terminal application is to minimize windows on top, or using Alt-Tab.
