[Bug 774746] Re: metallic sound when changing volume
@James, basically everything starting with pulse or libpulse and that you currently have installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/774746 Title: metallic sound when changing volume To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/774746/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 774746] Re: metallic sound when changing volume
Which packages from the ppa are necessary for testing out the fix for this? I'm seeing this issue on a Thinkpad T410 with this hardware $ lspci | grep -i audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06) 01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1) I'm not sure if I want to pull in unnecessary updates for some packages on this system yet.

David, Yesterday, I tested files from ppa:diwic/ppa and it solved the problem with metallic sound on my system. Changing volume, or Balance, Fade or Subwoofer settings in Sound Preferences/Output works as expected. THANKS! Just one question: can I somehow download all current files from ppa, just in case some future change breaks my system? Or, should I just disable the ppa from now onwards?
@zzarko, if we make another SRU for Pulseaudio on Natty, it should include this latest fix, so that is unlikely. But yeah, you could download all the debs and keep them somewhere if you like.
[Bug 774746] Re: metallic sound when changing volume
if you want to get the source code from the ppa backed up, you can run in a term the following: mkdir pa-backup cd pa-backup apt-get source pulseaudio this only works if you've got the deb-src in your sources.list. if you added the ppa via add-apt-repository it should be done. thank you for the comments here. [Bug 774746] Re: metallic sound when changing volume
Does this only happen with surround output? [Bug 774746] Re: metallic sound when changing volume
Yes, only on surround (5.1). I see that bug 445849 is declared invalid. Should I make this one its duplicate? I'm having issues on 32-bit fully updated Natty. I didn't tried ppa:diwic/ppa, as one user said that he lost 5.1 audio (it plays only 2.1). I can try that today and send the results.
I'm currently using brute-force method to go around this (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/796262). I'm not sure if this is the same bug as mine (mine only occurs in 5.1 setup), but you could try the script until better solution is found.
