Public bug reported: Kubuntu Natty 11.04 freezes at the beginning of the installation (when "kubuntu" is shown on a blue screen just before the graphical options should be shown either to try it or to install it) on the HP Pavilion dv6-3105er laptop when trying to install from desktop CD (both amd64 and i386 versions were tried).
If Alternate CD is used (amd64 version was tried) then the installation goes perfectly without any errors. However, Kubuntu is not bootable afterwards: it freezes before graphical login. If booting in rescue mode is selected, then it freezes after the following line is shown: [drm] Initialized radeon 2.8.0 20080528 for 0000:02:00.0 on minor 1 MD5 sums of all used installation CDs were checked and they all were checked for errors before trying the installations - there were no problems here. Also, there was Kubuntu Maverick 10.10 previously successfully installed and working reasonably well on this HP Pavilion dv6-3105er laptop (with the major exception of limited video card usability: only simple integrated Radeon HD 4250 was working while advanced discrete Radeon HD 5650 was not). This bug is probably related to the bug #727620 [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775747 Title: Kubuntu Natty is not installable/bootable on HP Pavilion dv6-3105er laptop -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
