No, the audio doesn't works even in a new user and the export command doesn't
have any variable starting with PULSE or PA. This is the complete output of the
export command:
$ export
declare -x COLORTERM="gnome-terminal"
declare -x
DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS="unix:abstract=/tmp/dbus-Pd8AtHCWnu,gui
Does it work for another user on the same computer?
If you run the "export" command, does it have any variable starting with
PULSE or PA?

I don't know... have you a command to execute that can tell us if my
pulse client is connected to another pulseadio server?
I fear that there is no pulseaudio client at all because if I run the
command:
$ ps aux | grep pulseaudio
there is no results.
Thank you very much

Hmm, could your pulse client be set to connect to another pulseaudio
server instead of the local one?

Title:
after upgrade to 11.04 audio doesn't
Yes, the audio seems to work using a livecd but pulseaudio doesn't autostart if
I run paplay. If I run it I get the following result:
$ LANG=C; paplay /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/desktop-login.ogg
Connection failure: Connection terminated

Strange. I assume that if you run a live-CD it works fine?
Will pulseaudio autostart if you e g run:
paplay /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/desktop-login.ogg
?

No, in syslog I can't find any reference to pulseaudio: grep pulse
/var/log/syslog shows nothing. Any way I attach it.
Furthermore the problem doesn't depend from the profile: even in new
profiles pulseaudio doesn't start. After a gnome logon if I run start-
pulseaudio-x11 I get Connection failure
if there isn't an "autospawn=no" in ~/.pulse/client.conf or
/etc/pulse/client.conf I don't know what the problem can be - perhaps
/var/log/syslog could give a hint if it crashes for some reason.

No, the .pulse/client.conf in my home doesn't exists.
$ls ~/.pulse/client.conf
ls: cannot access /home/antonella/.pulse/client.conf: No such file or directory
Have any other idea?
As a workaround I have hadded this file to the startup session:
$ cat ./.config/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop
[Deskt
> The problem is that when I logon there is no pulseaudio process
Is there anything in ~/.pulse/client.conf ? If it says "autospawn=no",
please delete that file.

Ok, you are right, pulseaudio doesn't crash. The problem is that when I
logon there is no pulseaudio process and I've tought that it has
crashed. If I manually run pulseaudio after a logon, the audio works but
I can't change audio properties using the applet on the upper bar, but I
can change it us
@piviul, thanks, but from the log it does not seem like PulseAudio
crashed during the period of time that the log was on?
