[Bug 777952] Re: Kernel panic on boot after Natty upgrade
Brad, obviously these log files apply to the later kernel (2.6.38-10-generic) which I have only booted once and it did not panic. As I said, feel free to close this bug as the problem appears to be fixed (although it would be nice to know which change fixed the regression so as to avoid it in future!). Thanks. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/777952 Title: Kernel panic on boot after Natty upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/777952/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This morning, I was able to boot 2.6.38-10-generic. Nothing. Is there a git tree of the Ubuntu kernel which I can use to bisect this regression? [Bug 777952] Re: Kernel panic on boot after Natty upgrade
Hi, I have managed to get more details by taking a video of the bootup with boot_delay=2000. The first few lines are typed out below: ACPI: Using IOAPIC for interrupt routing --[ cut here ]-- WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.38/kernel/sched_fair.c:1212 hrtimer_start_fair+0x10b/0x198() Hardware name: EV4873 Modules linked in: Process: 1 comm: swapper Not tainted 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu Call trace: -[ end trace (a hex number) ]--- BUG: Unable to handle kernel paging request at 000(big hex number) IP: [fff(big hex number)] cpuacct_charge+0x34/0x50 PGD 0 Thread overran stack, or stack corrupted Oops: [01] SMP last sysfs file: CPU 0 Modules linked in: Do you need more? Perhaps I should mention that this is a regression. I am still able to use the machine with the maverick 2.6.35 kernel. The machine is a laptop with an uncommon board. It only has one CPU. I've tried booting with nohz=off highres=off nolapic noapic and noacpi. I'm going to try booting with nosmp, and then I'm going to sleep. If this is the last message tonight, assume that didn't work either... [Bug 777952] Re: Kernel panic on boot after Natty upgrade
I was unable to get more of the backtrace. Can anyone advise me how to get grub to make a higher-resolution text console for the kernel? I may try a netconsole, but I think the panic happens so early that nothing will show up. Any other ideas welcome. [Bug 777952] Re: Kernel panic on boot after Natty upgrade
the same trouble. I was working with lucid. But today I want to upgrade to the current stable release because of ancient packages in current repo and poor backports. upgrade to maverick was successfull without any critical error at syslog. when upgrading to natty computer suddenly hangs while installing new kernel and kernel modules (nvidia, virtualbox). booting from this kernel causes kernel panic: cannot mount root fs. release with unstable kernel? People what do you think about? I booted from maverick's kernel - unity? what is this fuc*en about?
