I've been running 11.04 one week (default upgrade by Update Manager from
10.04) on ThinkiPad T500, and I have the same problem;
After leaving my laptop for a while, sometimes (approx. once a day), the system
hangs when trying to resume;
- Screen saver picture shows beautifully
- Mouse pointer
No, in Ubuntu Classic with effects everything is fine.

Power saving options all set so that laptop stays on all the time but blank
screensaver set to activate after 10mins idle.
Occasionally after a period of inactivity Unity desktop is completely
unresponsive except for mouse movement which does 'unblank' the
10 matches
