[Bug 807470] Re: printer is often deactivated
Hello, googling around I came to this thread and I have a similar issue. We use an all-in-one HP3030 over the local WLAN. The HP is connected to a Fritz-box via USB. Quite often my wife can not print and when I check, the printer is not activated. So I activate the printer using the root password and all is fine until next time. Somehow the printer gets deactivated from time to time. To tell the whole story: every night from 1-5 the WLAN and the printer are switched off automatically. The PC is sometimes running when the printer is switched off, but usually the printer is under power, when the PC gets active from boot or hibernate. I would be really happy for any hints and I am ready to help to localize this bug. It was present under 11.04 and is under 11.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/807470 Title: printer is often deactivated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hplip/+bug/807470/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 807470] Re: printer is often deactivated
Is the network printer always turned on and there is a network connection between the printer and the computer? Does it often happen to you that you send a job to the printer while it is turned off? Does the printer get disabled immediately then? Does the printer then stay turned off for a longer time or do you turn it on immediately/within a few minutes? What happens if you turn on the printer? Do the queued jobs get printed or is the printer disabled.
If the problem is wiuth your USB printer, do the following: Before each of the tests make sure that the printer is activated. 1. While the computer is running, turn the printer off, wait until it gets deactivated automatically and then turn it on. Wait. Within 10 seconds your printer should get activated again. 2. Turn off the printer, reboot the computer and after you are logged in wait 10 seconds and check whether your printer is activated. 3. Leave your printer turned on and reboot your computer. Check whether your printer is activated. 4. Turn your printer off, wait until the printer is deactivated and then shut down your system. Turn on your printer and wait until it is ready. The boot your system and check whether your printer is activated at least 10 seconds after login. Note that HP multi-function devices need a longer time to boot and only if they are ready to use they get visible for the computer on the USB. So count always my 10 seconds from the time where the printer is ready. Please attach the /var/log/syslog files from each test which fails (printer is not activated after the test). Please upload the files one-by-one. Neither packthem into an archive nor compress them. This makes it easier for the Launchpad user as they can read the files in their browsers after a simple click. ** Changed in: hplip (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/807470 Title: printer is often deactivated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hplip/+bug/807470/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
