https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- terminal/+question/165573 Basically, the Diamond character in the APL385.ttf font does not scale correctly when the system font size changes using, e.g., System/Preferences/Appearance Preferences/Fonts/ fixed-width font size. If using an xterm, the character does scale correctly when using CTRL- right-click to set font size.
