I'm a bit disappointed. The upstream bug is from may 2005 and also this bug is classified as wishlist meaning it has a very low priority (lowest?). We are talking about useability (people switching over from Windows for example) where it is expected these things just work. Altogether, this means this bug will not be solved very soon and that's a pity. There is over a thousand of nautilus bugs open upstream, a number of them a crashers, other can lead to data lost, other are pretty annoying, etc. There is plenty of way to copy a folder though from the sidebar or without using the sidebar, so right your bug is only a really minor one on the list of things to fix.
