Second confirmation this is now resolved with latest release.

Also, can confirm that user interactions now work as well on the
secondary monitor, where before you could only use the primary monitor
for selecting workspaces, and moving windows.

Thanks for fixing it!

Yes, this bug happens for me too. If I have a second monitor plugged in
and attempt to use the workspace switcher, I get all of the goofy
workspace imagery onscreen which is impossible to use.

2011-11-16 Thread danizmax
I confirm this bug as well, this bug is since Natty, but has become more
severe in Oneiric, since mouse position does not reflect clicking
position any more.

It should be fixed as soon as possible because it affects many people
using ubuntu at work.

I can confirm that this bug is at least partly cause by displays having
different geometry. My Laptop screen is at 1366x768 and the External
LCD is at 1360x768. If I set both displays to be 1280x720 the problem
goes away.

[Bug 839548] Re: Dual monitor Unity workspace switcher bug

2011-10-19 Thread Luke Scharf
I'm an idiot. I'd changed to a Gnome desktop from the Ubuntu/Unity
desktop. I must have rm'ed my .gmrc or something, but I assumed it was
a major upgrade since it was in the thick of the Oneiric beta. I still
love the new Gnome GUI shell, but please disregard my above comments on
the basis that I didn't know what the h3#l I was talking about.

[Bug 839548] Re: Dual monitor Unity workspace switcher bug

2011-10-17 Thread Luke Scharf
The new Unity switcher in Oneiric solves this one very nicely. I
haven't experienced the bug since this new version of Gnome was
introduced into the Oneric 2-3 weeks ago (when it was still in beta).
This is the unity variant where that revolves around a dashboard showing
the all of the running windows, the favorites, a way to explore
applications, a system-wide search-bar, and a list virtual desktops
along the right side. The dashboard can be accessed by pushing the
meta key, moving the mouse to the upper left-hand corner, or clicking on
the word Activities.

I'm a big fan of the new GUI. Instead of being an 90%-as-good copy of
the Mac OS X Dock, this is something new that is one of the few modern
GUIs that seems intuitive for both both novice and experienced users,
and works in harmony with all of the traditional X-Windows applications.

In other words, this bug no longer affects me. I reported it earlier in
the Oneiric beta. I'm guessing that everyone still seeing this is
running Natty?

Assuming that we're both patching our systems regularly, we should be
running the same major releases of the major desktop applications, then.

I wonder why the difference?

2011-10-17 Thread Eric Zimmerman
Well, I had 11.04 patched to the latest before upgrading yesterday, and
11.10 says Software Up to Date now, so I assume I have the latest.
My screens are right to left. Running laptop as primary on the right
1920x1080 and Second LCD via hdmi on the left 1920x1200.

I am available and can provide info or feedback at any time. Are there
any config or log files that might help diagnose the issue?

Bad bug...makes WS worthless. Cannot control workspaces at all from
second monitor. Workspace selection on primary monitor is very erratic.

I have same issue - dual monitor, one at 1920x1080, the other at
1920x1200.

[Bug 839548] Re: Dual monitor Unity workspace switcher bug

2011-09-24 Thread Luke Scharf
Omer Akram and David Barth: I submitted the duplicate bug. I can
confirm that no special steps are required to get the behavior shown in
my screenshot, or in nevergone's screenshot.

Nevergone's screenshot shows that the bug isn't related to the stacked
monitor configuration that I was using. A similarity between our
configurations, though, is that the both of our display-configurations
feature monitors of mismatched sizes.

The steps as I used are:
1. Plug in external monitor to laptop
2. Go to Display-control app, and arrange the monitors to match my physical
setup.
3. Press the workspace picker button.
4. Look at artifacts. Take screenshot.

I'll be happy to perform any additional troubleshooting steps, or test
partial fixes. I'm programming-literate, and an experienced Linux/Unix
user. This one is fairly easy to reproduce, though, so I'd guess that
any Unity/Compiz developer with mismatched monitors should be able to
see it.
