Sorry, Daniel, I distracted you with a mistake in an implementation
detail. I meant not Humanity, but ubuntu-mono providing light and dark
variations not just of go-previous-symbolic but of go-previous as well.
Can we get back to the question of whether, and if so why, USC should

I cannot see any symbolic arrow icons in Ubuntu-Mono-Light theme which
seems to be the theme i have set if i select Radiance from the theme
selector in Appearances.

I think we could disagree elsewhere on whether icons in menus should be
symbolic, while agreeing here on whether these Back and Forward buttons
should. They're quite different contexts. (For example, Back and Forward
menu items don't have icons at all.)
I'm all in favor of switching from manual

Sure sure. I didn't meant to imply back and forward menu items should
have icons, only that I have a feeling that in general icons that sit on
buttons should be symbolic.
Making the icons in Humanity monochrome (without the -symbolic
namespace) would create a situation where white icons appear on

pause: If this is an appropriate place to use symbolic Back and Forward
icons, when would ever be an appropriate place to use the non-symbolic
Back and Forward icons? It's reasonable to have an icon for which there
would never be
Yea, I've been wondering the same thing about back and forward buttons.
The problems (as always) comes down to third party applications. They
may have a need for the back and forward icons that is something other
than what we expect them to be used for (back and forward in the
toolbar).
