Looking at banshee.threaddump.fromsigquit.log, this bug looks a lot like a bug that should have been fixed for a couple of releases already. I don't have a 13.04 host to test on either - all of my hosts are on the latest LTS release (12.04). However, I can confirm that launching Banshee right now on my 12.04 host works ok. The program doesn't seem to hang at all upon startup. I found bug 845488 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/banshee/+bug/845488) which seems very similar to this bug, but because I don't know if the underlying cause is the same, I don't know for sure whether or not it's a duplicate of this one. I tried two other things to get banshee to start up successfully, and neither of them had any positive effect on this issue: 1) Completely removed my ~/.config/banshee-1 directory 2) purged my banshee install and reinstalled I'm quite puzzled by this behavior.
