Found the problem.
When booting up the default value of
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_vidoe0/brightness is 0. I have updated my
/etc/rc.local and have added the following line before exit 0:
echo 5 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness.
Restarted, and it works :)
Not to sure if this is a
Still present in precise, fresh install.

Hi Sebastien,
It looks like the plymouth portion is not invalid anymore, as soon as
lightdm starts the backlight switches off. Current version of lightdm is
lightdm_1.0.6-0ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb. I have attached the most recent logs
for lightdm. In x-0-greeter.log there are a few errors and warnings
The issue doesn't seem likely to be a gsd one, does it happen in non
gnome sessions? what login manager do you use?

Hi Bryce,
This issue still persists as of today. I will re-install with the recent
ISO to see if the issue can be resolved. Probably something went wrong
from Beta - Beta 2 - Release.

Hey octoquad,
Hi, thanks for reporting this issue during the development period of
Ubuntu.
I notice there's not been further comments to the bug report since the
release came out, would you mind updating us on the status of it in the
release?
Are you still able to reproduce the issue? If not,
Do you think you can run the same script (fixbacklight.sh) as discussed
in Bug #875831 during start up using start up applications?
http://askubuntu.com/questions/814/how-to-run-scripts-on-start-up-of-
ubuntu : Discusses different ways you can set up things to run on start
up.

You received
Using the xbacklight tool the actual values for 0-100% is actually 0%,
20%, 60% 100%. It seems the current value of the backlight is not
being stored when shutting down and on reboot has a value of 0%.
