I have the same problem myself. Also having this problem in 7.10 (latest updates), and above gconftool workaround does not prevent duplicate icons from reappearing. Hi! Thanks for the script, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me if I just execute the two commands from the terminal. This is my workaround to this problem. It refreshes the volume icons on the desktop every time you log in. create a file somewhere in your home directory, and put this inside: gconftool --type bool -s /apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible false gconftool --type bool -s /apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible true Save it, and make it executable Open System Preferences Sessions Under Startup Programs, add the script you just created. Until official patch is made, this is a workaround. I have observed same behaviour with 7.10. Occurs randomly, i.e., sometimes you get proper icon display, sometimes multiple icons. Unable to correlate with anything. I'm seeing the same issue on Ubuntu 7.10 beta 2. I have a WD MyBook (USB Drive) an a iPod Nano 4Gb, both of these devices intermittently create duplicate desktop icons.
