[Bug 900550] Re: mtp-probe missing from libmtp build for Natty (1.0.6-2)
There's still a deprendency problem, though. I've always gotten three /lib/udev/mtp-probe ... no such file or directory messages at boot time, and still do. apt-file says /lib/udev/mtp-probe is part of libmtp-runtime, which I do not have installed; but apparently I do have whatever package is querying for mtp-probe at boot time. (This system was initially installed as a cmdline system, then other packages added. It's not a gnome/unity system.) What package is generating those boot-time warnings? Looks like it might be coming from /lib/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules which belongs to package libmtp-common (which is installed), which apparently I got by installing vlc. Looks like libmtp-common needs a dependency on libmtp-runtime ... or else the mtp-probe lines in 69-libmtp.rules should be made conditional on whether mtp-probe actually exists. (vlc works fine, so whatever mtp- probe would have been doing, it's apparently not needed here.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/900550 Title: mtp-probe missing from libmtp build for Natty (1.0.6-2) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libmtp/+bug/900550/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 900550] Re: mtp-probe missing from libmtp build for Natty (1.0.6-2)
No, no messages in the log. The only reason I realized mtp-probe was missing was b/c I was trying to test my own udev rules (from the aforementioned workarounds), and while doing so I saw the message that certain rules were failing to apply because mtp-probe was missing. The issue is simple and I've fixed it in my own version of the package: add the mtp-probe file to the manifest for the libmtp8 package (or, failing that, mtp-tools), so that it gets bundled with the package. That's the whole problem - the file is built, and the built file works. It's just not rolled into the package at assembly time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/900550 Title: mtp-probe missing from libmtp build for Natty (1.0.6-2) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libmtp/+bug/900550/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 900550] Re: mtp-probe missing from libmtp build for Natty (1.0.6-2)
Sorry, I misunderstood your question. The answer to your question is no. Those messages you're seeing are indicative of some other USB- related problem since mtp-probe appears to be invoked properly, but is hanging for some reason and forcing udevd to kill it after a timeout expires.
