just had this problem when installing 12.04.2 LTS on a macbook pro 5.5
i could use the default image, but at the grub boot parameters i had to add
"nomodeset" and remove the "gfxmode $linux_gfx_mode". for debugging purposes i
removed "quiet" and "splash" earlier to see where it hangs...

I have been testing pure EFI booting with precise on a MacBook Pro (4,1 or 3,1)
using grub-efi-amd64.
When I have quiet and splash removed from the boot options I am seeing the same
error message:
"fb: conflicting fb hw usage nouveaufb vs EFI VGA - removing generic driver"

I am unable to report further on the bug, as I installed an ATI card
which is now primary and where the conflict does not occur. I am sure
though that since my hw configuration is (becoming) commonplace (EFI
BIOS+nVidia), there will be people confirming it.
