Hi, I checked it out again. There is a big improvement in time although
still slow. It took 2mins 56 seconds to open the file.
Then I tried to save it to OpenOffice format and it crashed!!!
Can you please try it out yourself to check if this happens to you as
well?

It loads for me but consumes a very large amount of memory and takes a
while to do so. This issue at least at the surface level seems somewhat
similar to bug #148148 in that both are large files 3MB+ and both take a
huge amount of memory to load and a long time to display as well.

Still slow compared to Powerpoint. I will check it out again with Ubuntu
7.10 and let you know. I have a P4 3GHZ HT 2048MB Ram.

OK we have a problem with opening ppt file. I had it to day on Feisty and Ooo
2.2 with a ppt file that came from a windows PC .
What I can do? can I go back to the older Open Office or to Edgy?

Powerpoint and even on openoffice (the windows version).

I'm not really clear on what is happening but it is still trying to open
the file. Here is part of a strace of the process:

Tested in Dapper, Edgy and Feisty.
All 3 would hang while trying to open the file.
