I had the same problem until I turned off crossfading (Edit - Preferences, Playback tab, uncheck Crossfade between tracks). Crossfading never worked with MP3s, so no big loss. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu.

this may be some sort of sound conflict with xchat notifications (using aoss) as I noticed in lsof | grep snd that xchat was using the sound system and once it was removed and rhythmbox restarted, the sound returned. So it's some sort of blocking that's going on between the two. On Wed, Jan 25,
