Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with
system-config-printer. You made this bug report in 2012 and Ubuntu has been
updated since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and
i have exactly the same failure/behaviour on my machine with ubuntu
11.10
only if i input the printer over the direct adress
ipp://192.168.1.5:631/printers/
then the printer works perfect.
there is definitly a failure in the atomatic detection of printers in
11.10

Actually maybe it didn't show hostname.local, I think it just showed
hostname in the printer setup. (I wrote the bug after doing the work
around).
