I thing there are huge problems with Unity Switcher (Alt+tab) and Scale
plugin (super+w) when static Application Switcher plugin (which is the
old original compiz switcher) is set. deactivating it solves a lot of
problems.
Unity --reset is re-activating this plugin.

Using unity 5.4 candidate from the staging ppa:
- go on a workspace, run an application, let's say gedit
- go to an empty workspace, middle click on gedit in the launcher to open a
second instance
- on the same workspace open something else, let's say nautilus
