Public bug reported:

Lubuntu 12.04 PPC all current patches applied as of 11:00 AM (CST) March
8, 2012

Login screen is black (background is blue with wave pattern, as expected)
White text, black background, buttons not visible.

Login with user name and password
Open Monitor Settings and Preferred Applications
Leave those two dialogs open and logout.

Login now appears as it should, visible buttons, grey background.
Stays this way until a shutdown, reboot, or the application of updates via
terminal or Update Manager.
(That is I can logout and login in all day and the login will be normal, as
long as I don't reboot or apply updates.)

What service or code is activated with the Open Monitor and Preferred
Applications windows that would provide a temporary fix for the black
login screen.

(Character Map and Network Connections windows are also black, but this
doesn't fix those.)

** Affects: libfm (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
