Happens also on Ubuntu 11.10 (x64); opening from a terminal the message
Not enough memory is displayed. There are a number of pulseaudio
messages in the syslog.
After following the advice in the thread linked in the skype community,
disabling the login sound seems to have helped somewhat and this
